Excursion to Fengdu - Ghost City

(*) = Certain information can only be found in our guide book.

Fengdu is known as the ghost town. The construction of the three gorges dam led to a rise in the water level and all the inhabitants (around 100’000) had to be resettled. However, the name ghost town is not originating from this instance, but the city is called so because of the many Taoist and Buddhist temples.

Fengdu is located in the (*).

Our suggestion: From the parking lot you can buy the entrance ticket. Then you go up a long corridor, which is surrounded by two walls. The climb is a bit difficult. After visiting the temple you can still ascend to the big Buddha head. Here you will have to pay another entrance fee. The view from the top is breathtaking (if the poor vision is not preventing it).

Time: Every day from morning to afternoon. You should allow a full day.

Note: The temple is located on a hill and it goes uphill with lots of stairs. The climb is therefore difficult.

Tip: You can also visit the Buddha head. From here you have a beautiful view.

Getting there: The best way is to book a tour. By car it takes about 3 hours. The road is not very easy to find.

Weather: Since everything is in the open air, you should come here when there is  good weather. Best if the view is all clear, so you can enjoy the view.

Admission: Admission for both (*).
