What to do in Case of an Accident

Online since: 09. April 2013

Should you have an accident, you dont necessarily have to call the police (direct number: 112 or 21224001). If there are no casualties, call the Local Wardens (direct number 21 320 202). The police are normally only called if there are any casualties.
Note: Wardens also have the authority to hand out tickets and wont get into any discussions about them.

Telephone numbers:

Police: 112
(in case of an accident with casualties)

LOCAL WARDEN 21 320 202 (in case of an accident with no casualties)

Careful! We have heard from several tourists and expats that they had difficulties driving on the left side of the road, and in particular, estimating the correct distance to the right side. That shouldnt be any problem if you drive a car with the driver’s seat on the left side, but if you have a rental car with the drivers seat on the right side, you might experience some difficulties.

If you are driving a car in Malta which is set out for the driving on a right-handed side (the driver seat is on the left), then problems often occur with street mirrors (often seen in narrow streets), with ticket machines (located on the opposite site) and when turning into a street that has a steep angle on the passenger side (because you as a driver cant see well, because the street is adjusted for the other seat).
